How to install and set up Honest Size Charts on your Shopify store
Short answer: Install the app, create a chart on Charts, assign it under Storefront assignment, Publish, then add the Honest size chart theme app block on your product template. Preview on the storefront. Free is 3 published charts; Pro is $8.99/mo or $89/yr for unlimited.
This is the merchant setup guide for Honest Size Charts & Guides (Ghanshyam Digital LLP). Use it when you install the app, or when a Shopify App Store reviewer walks through the flow.
1. Install the app and approve permissions
- Open the Shopify App Store listing for Honest Size Charts.
- Click install and approve the permissions. The app only needs product and file access (it does not read customers or orders).
- After install, open the app from Shopify Admin → Apps.
What you see: The app opens embedded in Shopify admin. The left nav shows Home, Charts, Billing, and Export CSV. The footer shows Ghanshyam Digital LLP, support@honestsizecharts.com (48h reply), and Privacy policy.
App language
The app uses your Shopify admin language automatically (English, Hindi, Spanish, French, German, and Brazilian Portuguese). English is the fallback. To change it, change your language in Shopify account settings.
Storefront button and popup text follow your store’s language. Chart titles and rows stay exactly as you type them.
2. Home checklist
Open Home.
- If you have no charts yet, the heading is Welcome — get your first size chart live, with a note that most merchants finish in a few minutes.
- After you start, the heading is Your size chart checklist, with progress like “X of Y done”.
Useful actions on Home:
- Create your first chart (primary action when you still need a chart)
- View charts (N)
- Open theme editor — add size chart block (opens the theme editor deep link)
- Billing & plan
Work through the checklist as you create, assign, publish, and place the block.
3. Create a chart
- Go to Charts in the app nav.
- Click New chart.
- Either:
- Pick a Template (for example Apparel tops, or another tops / bottoms / shoes / bras / kids template) and click Create from template, or
- Enter a Title and click Create blank chart.
Chart editor (table)
On the Chart editor page:
- Set Title.
- Set Chart format to Table (default) or Image.
- Set Storefront display mode to Modal (Size guide link) or Inline.
- Set Button label (modal) if you use modal. Default is Size guide.
- Set Primary unit to Centimeters or Inches. Column headers stay unit-less; the unit comes from this setting.
- Edit the grid: change cells, Add row, Add column. Use the delete controls on rows or columns if needed.
- Check Storefront preview (read-only) for how shoppers see the table.
- Click Save.
Image chart (optional)
- Set Chart format to Image.
- Add Alt text.
- Upload a PNG, JPG, or WebP under Chart image (stored in Shopify Files), then Upload image.
- Click Save.
What you see: For Image format, the table editor is hidden and you get a short note to upload the chart image below.
4. Assign the chart to products
Still on the chart page, open Storefront assignment.
- Click Add products and pick one or more products.
- Or Add collections.
- Or add a Tag plus Tag priority (lower wins), then Add tag rule.
- Or add a Vendor plus priority, then Add vendor rule.
Priority when more than one rule could match:
- Direct product assignment (if multiple charts: most recently updated chart wins)
- Collection assignment (lowest Shopify collection ID wins)
- Tag rule (lowest priority number wins among matching tags)
- Vendor rule (lowest priority number wins)
Sync tips
- Tag and vendor rules can apply to new products that match after you save.
- After you change collection membership in Shopify, click Refresh all storefront so assignment stays accurate.
- The sync card shows last full refresh / auto-sync times when available.
5. Publish the chart
Click Publish. Published charts can show on the storefront for assigned products. Use Unpublish to move a chart back to draft.
Free plan limit: up to 3 published charts. If you hit the limit, unpublish another chart or upgrade to Pro.
6. Add the theme app block
You need an Online Store 2.0 theme.
Fast path: On Home, click Open theme editor — add size chart block.
Manual path:
- Online Store → Themes → Customize
- Open Products → Default product (or the product template you use)
- In the product information section: Add block → Apps → Honest size chart
- Place the block near the size selector
- Click Save
Block settings
In the theme editor, select the Honest size chart block. You can set:
- Display / button label behaviour that applies when the chart itself leaves those blank (a chart’s own Storefront display mode and Button label win when set)
- Button style: Match theme or Custom
What you see: In the theme editor sidebar, the block name is Honest size chart under Apps. After Save, the product preview should show the Size guide control (modal) or the inline accordion.
7. Preview on a product page
- Open an assigned product on the live storefront (or theme preview).
- For modal: click Size guide (or your custom button label).
- For inline: expand the accordion.
- Check a phone-sized view. Wide tables scroll sideways.
If nothing shows, jump to Troubleshooting.
8. Plans and billing
Open Billing in the app nav. Under Your plan, the app only shows Free or Pro (never a separate yearly label).
| Plan you pick on Shopify’s hosted page | What the app shows under Your plan |
|---|---|
| Free (3 published charts) | Free |
| Pro Monthly ($8.99/month, unlimited charts) | Pro |
| Pro Yearly ($89/year, unlimited charts) | Pro |
There is no separate free trial. Free is how you try the app. Pro is a flat fee through Shopify App Pricing (not tied to order volume).
To change plan:
- On Billing, click Change plan in Shopify.
- Pick Free, Pro Monthly, or Pro Yearly on Shopify’s hosted plan page.
- Back in the app, click Refresh plan from Shopify if limits do not update automatically. Your plan should then show Free or Pro.
If you move from Pro back to Free, the app keeps your 3 most recently updated published charts live. Extra published charts move to draft. Nothing is deleted.
Full plan copy also lives on the pricing page.
9. Export CSV (backup)
In the app nav, click Export CSV. The app downloads your charts. Use this for backup or when you switch apps later. (Export only; there is no CSV import in the app today.)
10. Remove the block or uninstall
- Theme editor: remove the Honest size chart block from the product template and Save.
- Shopify Admin → Apps: uninstall Honest Size Charts.
After uninstall, shop data is cleaned up per the privacy policy (GDPR shop/redact webhooks).
Troubleshooting
The Honest size chart block is missing in the theme editor
- Confirm you are on an Online Store 2.0 theme.
- Customize the product template, not a collection or homepage template. The block is for product pages.
- Reinstall / refresh the app, then open Add block → Apps again.
- Try the Open theme editor — add size chart block button on Home.
Chart not appearing on a product
Check all three:
- Chart status is Published (not draft).
- That product is covered by Storefront assignment (product, collection, tag, or vendor). After collection changes, click Refresh all storefront.
- The Honest size chart block is on the product template that product uses, and the theme was Saved.
Also confirm Storefront display mode: modal needs a click on the button label; inline shows as an accordion.
Plan not updating after upgrade
- Finish the plan change on Shopify’s hosted page (Change plan in Shopify).
- Return to Billing and click Refresh plan from Shopify.
- If you still see a warning, complete the plan change again, then refresh. Your previous plan stays active until the new one confirms.
Hit the Free published-chart limit
Free allows 3 published charts. Unpublish one, or open Billing → Change plan in Shopify and pick Pro Monthly or Pro Yearly.
